Homework in Room 17 is an extension of the work they have done in class. Some of the homework will be to reinforce concepts taught in class. Other homework may challenge the student to be thoughtful, creative, and persistent. Some homework (usually a reading assignment) may be intended to be done with a parent or much older sibling.
Homework is given Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Friday. Unless otherwise specified, students are required to complete all homework assignments. Students get a Homework Log every Monday. They write down the homework they are required to do that day on this sheet. They are to write their Language Arts and math homework in the section provided for that day
Parents, please, never tell your child answers to the homework. Your job is to stimulate their thinking! The best way to do that is to ask your child questions that force them to think about what they are doing. This will require patience on your part, as your child will wait for you to tell him/her. Expect this to be difficult for you in the beginning but with time you will become quite skilled at asking them questions that help them to find their right path. From this your child will learn to examine their ideas, ask questions themselves, and explain their ideas. Very important skills in life.
Homework for the day will be posted here: Monday HW (Due Tuesday)
